Get ready for a new era of Hidden Track! Season Five of CKUA’s flagship podcast has launched.
Its mission of exploring the untold stories behind the music continues. This season, however, it’s a whole new experience.
“We’re really excited about the new format that we’ve got going,” says host Grant Stovel.
What is the new format, you say? Meet Hidden Track: Stories and Hidden Track: Sessions.
Previously, Hidden Track was audio-focused, with the occasional fun video clip included. Now, video comes to the forefront. Hidden Track: Sessions are full-length video episodes. Still focusing on unhurried, longform conversation, Sessions also include the musical guest playing intimate acoustic sets.
Hidden Track: Stories continues our classic audio deep-dive into the sweat, tears, drama and joy that bubble forth when music is created.
Listeners get two Hidden Track episodes per month, one Sessions episode and one Stories episode. Sessions will also be available in audio-only podcast form.
If you’re new to Hidden Track, here’s the idea. Host Grant Stovel sits down with two members of the music intelligentsia each month. He talks with musicians and industry insiders, each handpicked for their proximity to what really happens when human beings set out to create the art/science/magic that is music.
The idea to introduce Sessions came from the excitement generated by earlier video spots.
“People found it really compelling and they wanted to hear and see more. We were thankfully able to oblige given that we have a pretty amazingly strong set of skills on the team right now,” says Grant.
First up this season is the incredible roots artist Sunny War.
“We’re starting off the season with an amazing Sessions episode featuring Sunny War in live performance in a way that frankly I don’t think we’ve heard from her before. I am really excited that we’ll be able to bring that to audiences along with an amazingly candid and wildly engrossing conversation,” says Grant.
As for who else you’ll get to hear, you must stay tuned!
“We’ve decided to roll out our guests this season in a surprise fashion; we’re going to be teasing the announcement just ahead of each episode released,” says Grant. “You can let your mind and imagination run wild with our clues and then we’ll be landing each episode in kind of a ‘ta-da!’ fashion every second Friday.”
