The seed for AJA Louden’s newest exhibition at the Alberta Craft Council Gallery could have been planted by the creators of the Black Panther series of comics. Fusing together science fiction grounded in the spirit of matriarchy, AJA Louden’s Prairie Star Deck pushes the boundaries of textile art into new places that your grandmother could only dream about. 
In 2022 Louden was invited by Fern Facette to be an artist in residence at Fern’s School of Craft in Edmonton. This experience led to new work in textile art. Visual artist and muralist AJA Louden dropped into Thoroughfare to talk about making the transition between spray cans and loops of fabric.
