Welcome to CKUA Radio’s Accessibility Initiatives page. We are thrilled to share our comprehensive Accessibility Plan for 2024-2027, a reflection of our unwavering commitment to inclusivity and accessibility for all. As Alberta’s pioneer in public and educational broadcasting since 1927, our goal is to ensure that every individual, regardless of any barriers they might experience, has access to our diverse and vibrant cultural content.
Our Accessibility Plan, crafted in accordance with the principles of the Accessible Canada Act (ACA), is designed to identify, remove, and prevent barriers within our operations, facilities, and services. This document is not just a policy guide but a declaration of our ongoing journey towards enhancing accessibility at every level of our organization.
We encourage you to download the full PDF version of our Accessibility Plan to explore the detailed strategies and actions we are implementing to enhance accessibility and inclusivity across our platforms and interactions. Whether you are part of our community or are interested in our accessibility efforts, your feedback is invaluable to us.
Progress Update: One Year In
We’ve just published our first annual Accessibility Progress Report, which reflects the initial steps we’ve taken to implement our plan and to live out the values of accessibility, equity, and inclusion. This past year, we:
– Delivered organization-wide Disability Awareness training
– Conducted baseline demographic and access surveys with our staff, volunteers, and board
– Engaged experts to conduct a comprehensive building audit and website accessibility review
– Launched a new People & Culture Team to lead inclusive hiring and policy development
– Began planning for future improvements in broadcasting, communication, and access to cultural content
We recognize that accessibility is an ongoing journey—not a checklist—and we’re committed to listening, learning, and improving as we move forward.
