Originally written four decades ago when he was a professor at the University of Lethbrdige, Thomas King’s classic short story, Borders tells a powerful tale about nationhood, identity, and colonialism, focusing on a single episode where a mother and young son cause consternation at the Coutts/Sweetgrass border crossing, simply by refusing to identify their citizenship as anything other than Blackfoot.
The story is being re-told as brand-new graphic novel, in collaboration with young Métis illustrator, Natasha Donovan.
CKUA’s Grant Stovel brought us more on the book on Friday, October 29, 2021 on Alberta Morning.
