Margaret Shelton is an artist best remembered for her work in watercolour and block prints, and has been referred to as “Alberta’s Emily Carr.”
Shelton grew up in the Drumheller valley in South Central Alberta near Rosedale. Her passion for painting outdoors, coupled with her love of tenting and cycling, took her all over the province and through B.C.
This month, the Lethbridge Art Gallery is showcasing paintings and prints from the University of Lethbridge collection spanning 40 years of Margaret Shelton’s artistic practise.
Coming up on Alberta Morning on Friday, October 22, at 8:45 AM (MT), CKUA’s Lisa Wilton will explore Margaret Shelton’s fascinating life, and preview From the Collection: Margaret Shelton with curator David Smith.
