Hear Thyself is a sound design art piece

Interview

Imagine if someone could talk to your analyst, take notes, and go home and write the soundtrack that encompasses you from the inside out. What do you think you would sound like?

Hear Thyself: Audio and Music for Know Thyself as a Virtual Reality is a piece designed to allow users to look, listen, explore, and even manipulate the personal data of individuals, including participating artist Marilene Oliver, through images such as MRI and PET scans.

From these manipulations, Sound Studies Institute Director Dr. Scott Smallwood creates a tapestry of sounds as a reaction to the inner machinations of a person.

Dr. Smallwood joined Tony King on Thoroughfare to reveal what’s going on in the lab!
