Cris Derksen is a JUNO-nominated composer and cellist who hails from Treaty 8 territory in Northern Alberta. On Thursday, April 20, Cris makes her Edmonton Symphony Orchestra debut in a program she also curated. Titled Love is a Battle Field, the show features contemporary orchestral music by Indigenous composers from across the Canadian prairies.
Taking inspiration from the land around us, this special evening of music seeks to combine Indigenous traditions with 21st-century orchestral arrangements to create a uniquely powerful storytelling experience.
