On Theatre: Alexandra Dawkins explores time travel and relationships in “Bloomsday”

Time intersects in unexpected ways, weaving from the past into the present and shuffled into the future in Steven Dietz’s play that is at once haunting and witty.

Bloomsday is being presented by Shadow Theatre in Edmonton this month as a finale to their season. The play chronicles the lives of Robert and Cait, who reunite in Dublin 35 years after first meeting at a celebration honouring author James Joyce. Full of a rich tapestry of words that pay homage to its namesake, Bloomsday thoughtfully unpacks the story of its two characters at different stages in life as they reveal their hidden desires and share their discomfort in living the moment. Starring in the play is Alexandra Dawkins, who is the inaugural Shadow Theatre Artistic Fellowship recipient.
