On Theatre: New work from Lianna Makuch at Collider Festival

Interview

On April 10th, the Citadel Theatre‘s play development festival Collider will present a reading of Alina, a new work by Alberta playwright Lianna Makuch. The play is inspired by the true story of a teenaged Ukrainian combat medic at the front lines of a notorious 2015 battle during the war in Eastern Ukraine.

Lianna Makuch joined Grant Stovel on Alberta Morning to chat about Alina and its real-life inspiration, about how PTSD can impact people in devastating ways, and what the play has to say about how we deal with life during (and after) wartime.

This staged reading is a precursor to the eventual full production premiere in May. Admission for Sunday’s reading is free, but donations are welcome.

All donations will be go to support the real-life Alina, and other volunteers working at the front lines in Ukraine right now.
