Meet Monthly Donor Lawrie Mack

Story

Lawrie Mack has been listening to CKUA since the 1980s. “Wow, is this station ever eclectic!” was his immediate response. “Blues to folk and international in between.”

Before long, The Celtic Show with host Andy Donnelly was his go-to show, “possibly due to running into Andy in a small pub somewhere along the way,” Mack says.

CKUA has been a part of his life as he moved from teaching to retirement and from Calgary to a small lake outside Invermere, BC. Mack golfs, kayaks, curls and plays hockey for fun.

While he doesn’t listen as avidly as he did during his Calgary days, he’s still a steadfast monthly donor.

“I still feel it is an institution worth saving,” he says. “I remember the dark time when it went off the air and the night it returned with Andy’s show and Dougie MacLean’s song.”

He encourages all CKUA listeners to be monthly donors. “If you value this amazing mix of music and support for local and Canadian artists, keep it going!”

When it came to selecting his JAMuary jam, Mack says, “I first heard Eva Cassidy on CKUA, so I would recommend ‘Fields of Gold.'”
