CKUA celebrates Edmonton Folk Music Festival

News

There are thousands of people in Alberta who will be missing the magic of the Edmonton Folk Music Festival this weekend. That said, if those folks tune into CKUA between now and Sunday, they may just think the festival is still happening!

Starting today, you’ll hear some of the many magical moments captured year after year by CKUA’s knowledgeable, entertaining, and engaged team of hosts at the Edmonton Folk Music Festival.

Here’s a look at some of the exciting sessions and interviews in store over the next few days:

Thursday August 6th

Traffic Jams with Lisa Wilton (5-6pm Thursday)

The fun starts Thursday at 5pm with an Edmonton Folk Fest playlist during Traffic Jams with Lisa Wilton. Tune in to hear The Head and the Heart (pictured above), Lucius, Vance Joy, and so much more.

Friday August 7th

Traffic Jams with Lisa Wilton (5-6pm Friday)

The festival fun continues with performances recorded at the Edmonton Folk Music Festival by Gregory Alan Isakov, Courtney Marie Andrews, Shakey Graves, The War and Treaty, The Unthanks, and more. Plus, we’ll hear more about a new documentary on the Edmonton Folk Festival debuting this weekend!

Celtic Show with Andy Donnelly (6-8pm Friday)

Andy shares a few unforgettable performances by Eddi Reader, the late, great Laura Smith, Four Men and a Dog, and the legendary Dick Gaughan (pictured above).

Saturday August 8th

Wide Cut Country with Allison Brock (10-Noon Saturday)

Allison revisits performances by musical royalty Rosanne Cash (pictured above) and Amy Helm, plus memorable Edmonton Folk Festival appearance by Russell deCarle and Joe Ely.

Natch’l Blues with Holger Petersen (3-4pm Saturday)

Holger digs back into the vault to share performances by Lost Bayou Ramblers, The Hamiltones, Murray Porter, and Samantha Martin & Delta Sugar.

Mulligan Stew with Terry David Mulligan (5-7pm Saturday)

How will Terry fit festival headliners Rhiannon Giddens, Nathaniel Rateliff, Mike Farris, and Michael Franti into a jam-packed show that also features memorable performances by Dan Mangan and Blacksmith, and The Bros. Landreth? We’re not sure, but if anyone can do it, TDM can. Tune in to find out! EFMF Producer Terry Wickham will also guest on The Stew to tell us about The Hill at Home 2020!

Sunday August 9th

Folk Routes with Tom Coxworth (10-Noon Sunday)

Let Tom be the host of your Sunday morning workshop with an unforgettable show featuring Bears Den, Alela Diane, Tom Russell, and Anaïs Mitchell.

World Spinning with Lark Clark (4-6pm Sunday)

We go out with a bang as Lark weaves together an eclectic hour of music and engaging conversation with Dobet Gnahore (pictured above), Delgres, Mokoomba, and Black Umfolosi. This will be a special program in tribute to our dear friend and colleague Monica Miller, who left us last year on the final Sunday night of Edmonton Folk Festival 2019.
