Shadows In Time: Reclaiming dance, music, and storytelling

Directed by Kristina Fithern-Stiele (Teslin Tlingit) and starring the young women and girls of Stardale Women’s Group, Shadows In Time is a follow up to the organization’s award-winning film The Road. The film grapples with the deep-rooted prejudice and discrimination that Indigenous women and girls face every day, while also showcasing their triumph and resilience in the face of these adversities.

Shadows In Time shines a spotlight on the people of Stardale Women’s Group as they come together to reclaim their culture through dance, music and storytelling. The Calgary Public Library is presenting a free screening of the film, along with discussion and live drum performances, on June 24, 2023.

On the June 21, 2023 edition of Thoroughfare CKUA’s Tony King was joined by the executive producer of the film and executive director of Starlight Women’s Group, Helen McPhaden.
