Edmonton-based actress and playwright Belinda Cornish is getting ready to share her new “odd couple comedy about a tiny tragedy” hiraeth (“HERE-eyeth”). Directed by Rachel Peake, this same duo brought us The Garneau Block in September of 2021. “hiraeth” is described as a tragi-comedy that stirs in elements of peaceful domesticity, IVF and the roommate from hell.

The play’s title refers to a Welsh word that describes a longing for a home you never had, or to which you can never return. The play follows Sidi, a successful business woman with a hipster husband, and a fixer-upper house, who is looking to start a family.

On Thursday, October 21, 2021 on Traffic Jams, playwright Belinda Cornish and director Rachel Peake spoke with CKUA’s Tony King about the new tragi-comedy play, which runs at the Varscona Theatre, October 21-30.
