It’s a holiday yarn that evokes the phrase “making spirits bright” in several different ways. Todd Babiak’s new novel The Spirits Up is an Edmonton story. It’s a ghost story. And it’s a Christmastime story!
The action begins late on a Halloween night with a strange and unexplained event, triggering a series of hauntings that follow a mild-mannered Edmonton family right through to the festive season.
Monday at 8:45 am (MT) on Alberta Morning, beloved Alberta expat Todd Babiak joined CKUA’s Grant Stovel to talk about the ghosts of Dickens, happy endings, income inequality, the bombardment of non-stop “jingle-jangle” music, as well as the conjuring up a fictional Edmonton Christmas from his adopted home of Penguin, Tasmania.
