Brent Butt’s darkly comic thriller

Dubbed Canada’s liveliest literary festival, the Imaginairium Festival by Wordfest is now in its 28th year. The 2023 edition brings well-known authors such as Patrick deWitt, Linwood Barclay, Will Ferguson, Michelle Good, and more to Calgary from Oct. 11 to 15, 2023. One name, however, is more associated with comedy than literature – Brent Butt.

Brent is known primarily as the Emmy-nominated creator and star of the beloved Canadian comedy series, Corner Gas. However, the accomplished comic has taken his first major step as an author with the release of his debut novel, Huge. The book is set in 1994 and revolves around a trio of stand-up comedians as they tour around various rural communities. It’s no laughing matter though, when one of the comics starts to exhibit troubling, psychopathic behaviour.

Brent Butt joined Lisa Wilton on Traffic Jams to discuss the new novel and his upcoming involvement with the 28th edition of Imaginarium by Wordfest.
