This month, the TREX Space in Medicine Hat hosts a collaborative curatorial project featuring work from ten artists with ties to the area.
Strange & Known Places features artwork by Vicki Hadland, Jenna Hoffart, Matias Martinez, Brenda Mercer, Robert Rice, Chantel Schultz, Erica Teulon, Bridget Trout, Vergo Vanelle and Curtis Windover. The 30 works are presented in textiles, performance, photography, beadwork, blown glass, painting, drawing, digital collage, and video.
The exhibit was co-curated by Genevieve Farrell, program manager for the Alberta Foundation for the Arts Travelling Exhibition Program (TREX) and Edmonton-based artist Kira Vlietstra, a recent graduate of the Medicine Hat College of Art and Design.
On Thursday, December 16, 2021 on Traffic Jams, CKUA’s Lisa Wilton brought us a preview of the exhibition by exploring the ties that unite these artists, and delving into the show’s exploration of lesser understood aspects of the human experience.
