In early 2019, Edmonton singer-songwriter Braden Gates was one of a small group of artists to take part in a residency at The Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity or, as he calls it, “The Banff Centre for Witchcraft and Wizardry.” “There’s just all these resources for artists” says Braden, comparing the experience to Hogwarts for musicians. “To live there for three weeks, have all these resources, lots of studio space. Your focus for 24 hours a day is just to write songs, which is crazy.”
Braden stopped by CKUA ahead of his return to The Banff Centre a few months later. You can check out two new songs from Braden’s CKUA session: “Wings of Love” (above), and “New in Town” below.
