Hold Your Event at CKUA

News

Here’s an idea: if you’re planning a party, meeting, or special event, hold it at CKUA! Our historic brick building, the Alberta Hotel, is one of Edmonton’s most unique event venues.

Let’s set the scene. Guests walk in to our open, welcoming (and art-laden) lobby, which leads to the CKUA Performance Space itself. An appealing, spacious gathering place with floor-to-ceiling windows and a remodeled interior, it’s a chameleon of an event space able to cater to all kinds of functions.

Our building re-opened for events early in 2023, with celebrations for the JUNO Awards. Since then, the performing space has hosted a food-meets-drag competition, podcast recordings with a live audience, concerts, and a book market. We’ve been honoured to host weddings and celebrations of life. We love to host people for all occasions.

“We work with our clients to find out what they want,” says CKUA Rentals Manager Laurie Iverson. “People enjoy the character and charm of the building. They often like the fact that the building is also home to a working broadcaster. I often take groups on tours of the building, especially to see the studios and our huge music library.”

Karen Howell, CKUA’s Events and Volunteers Manager, agrees that building tours are often a draw. CKUA’s flexibility and helpfulness distinguish CKUA from other venues, she says. “Clients can use any caterer, and we have flexible packages for different times of day and duration of event. Our focus is on solid customer service, with a personal approach to planning.”

In October, many businesses participated in the Harvest Book Fair held at CKUA. Liz Greenaway, bookseller at Audreys Books, says, “Audreys welcomed the chance to connect with both publishers and customers at a casual event in the heart of downtown Edmonton. It was wonderful to see how many people came out!”

“The event space was perfect,” she continues. “The huge windows provided the perfect backdrop and lighting for the table of books, while the room had ample space for customers and vendors to mingle, shop, and chat. We also appreciated the foyer space for catering as well as a green room for vendors. The roof patio event at the end of the day was the icing on the cake. We will definitely keep this space in mind for future book events!”

Holiday party? Business meeting? Album release celebration? Wiener dog races? We would love to talk with you about planning the perfect event at the CKUA building. (Though to be clear, we are kidding about the dachshunds.)
