Helen Belay pauses her accelerating career to consider the deeper nature of theatre

Helen Belay thought this summer was going to be a time of excitement and fun. Instead, it’s turned out to be a period of soul-searching. It’s been a year since Helen graduated from the acting program at the University of Alberta.

Her career is off to a great start. Helen has worked with several professional companies, and she landed a gig at Edmonton’s biggest theatre, The Citadel, but when the pandemic put the brakes on the theatre world, it gave her a chance to stop and think about the sort of career she wants.

In this #fringespot, Helen talks to Peter Brown about this pivotal moment in her career.

Helen will be appearing online at The Edmonton Fringe that Never Was, she’s preparing a 5-minute topical segment called Currently Current, which will be featured during Fringe Revue Episode 3 which will take place Saturday, August 15th on FringeTV.

From August 10th – 21st, CKUA is celebrating The Edmonton Fringe that Never Was.

If you’re a fan of magic, you know the name Billy Kidd. She’s been on TV around the world, including Penn and Teller. Friday August 14th at 5:45pm MT Billy will talk about the lessons she learned during her first terrifying days as a street performer at the Edmonton Fringe.
