St. Patrick’s Night with The Oak Trio

Friday, March 22nd

Presented by the Rocky Mountain Folk Club. Doors open at 7:00 and the show starts at 7:30 pm. Tickets may be purchased in advance ($25 + fees) by going to our website or purchased for $30 at the door, though this show sometimes sells out! If you want to reserve tickets and don’t like buying online, call Helen at 403-460-6264 & ask for your tickets to be held at the door.

Headliners for the evening: David Morrissey, Emilie Kirwan, and Dan Mills are three talented musicians who for years frequented the lively Oak Tree Tavern session on late Sunday afternoons. David, from County Kildare, has developed a percussive style of playing which has been described as the “engine” of sessions. Emilie is from Ballynacally, a village in Co. Clare, and is a marvelous fiddler. She has a Master’s degree in Traditional Irish music performance. And Dan Mills is an accomplished musician from Newfoundland. Danny was a mainstay in the band The Freels with Fergus O’Byrne and Maria Peddle.

Opening set: Whether singing a traditional song from the British Isles or a modern song that sounds like it could be trad, Called By the Sea brings life to their music through energetic vocals and engaging instrumentation. Doug Baker and Michael Pollock are skilled musicians who have been part of the Calgary music scene for many years in a variety of groups (Twisted Roots, Tessitura, Diminished Fifth, Sunday Nite Band). They tell fascinating musical stories that will make you tap your feet, sing and laugh along.
