Marianne Trudel and John Hollenbeck

Friday, April 12th

A piano, a drum set, a thousand ideas. Dédé Java Espiritu joins the creativity of pianist and composer Marianne Trudel and world-renowned drummer John Hollenbeck.
Marianne Trudel is a multi-talented pianist, composer, improvisor and arranger. A generous and engaging artist, a veritable powerhouse in Quebec and Canada’s instrumental music scene, Marianne was a rare Canadian whose work was included in Terri-Lyne Carrington’s seminal work, “New Standards”. With seven recordings as a bandleader and numerous awards–including two JUNO nominations– Marianne is a star of the Canadian jazz scene. In addition to a busy performance calendar, she teaches at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music, along with her partner in the Dédé Java Espiritu project, John Hollenbeck.

John Hollenbeck is a drummer of extraordinary creativity with a celebrated career that includes six Grammy nominations and numerous awards. His expansive résumé includes eleven recordings as a leader and nine with the outstanding Claudia Quintet. He was a professor of Jazz Drums and Improvisation at the Jazz Institute Berlin from 2005-2016 and in 2015 joined the faculty of McGill University’s Schulich School of Music.

The CKUA Events Calendar is a listing of music, arts, and culture happenings for the whole province. It is a terrific resource that CKUA offers to the community, to share details about concerts, gallery openings, plays, and films.

Please note that due to the amount of listings, we publish events that focus on music, arts, or culture. While we'd love to publish all submitted items, the sheer number of events means that we sometimes have to decline submissions.

Need to change or update your submitted event?

Email details to feedback@ckua.com and the CKUA team of calendar volunteers will do the rest.
