Chorale Saint-Jean Concert

Saturday, April 13th

Chorale Saint-Jean will present a unique and special concert. In the first half, you will hear a variety of the choir’s favourites, as well as some new works composed especially for the choir for its Acadian tour this summer. The second half will feature the wonderful suite for
choir: Elles s’appelaient Marie (They Were Called Marie) by France Levasseur-Ouimet and Allan Bevan. With its music, narration and projected historical photos, this major work tells the story of the migration of Francophone people and culture to Western Canada in the early 20th century, with all of the joys and sorrows that accompanied the journey and arrival. The story is told from the perspective of the pioneering women who all bore the name Marie at the time. It is an important work in historical terms, but also extremely powerful
and moving. Some English translation will be provided in the program. Chorale Saint-Jean invites you to share this memorable musical evening with us.
It is to be noted that a bus will be available from St Thomas D’Aquin church in Bonnie Doon 8410 89 street at 6:30 pm to arrive at the Arden Theatre at 7:10pm to return to the church after the concert. Please register for the bus at chorale@ualberta.ca
