Wirth Institute 25th Anniversary Concert Celebrating the Legacy of Marek Jablonski
Solo Piano Recital performed by Mikolaj Warszynski: featuring works by Mozart, Beethoven, Liszt & Chopin
Sunday, February 11th at 3pm, Convocation Hall, Old Arts Building, UofA
Please join us for a Solo Piano Recital by pianist Mikolaj Warszynski in UofA’s Convocation Hall on February 11th at 3pm as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Wirth Institute and pay tribute to the legacy of the great Canadian pianist Marek Jablonski, 25 years after his passing. On the program: the piano masterworks of Mozart, Beethoven, Liszt and Chopin.
Dr. Mikolaj Warszynski studied at the UofA as an undergraduate with Marek Jablonski, whose legendary interpretations of Chopin remain powerfully imprinted into his memory. Jablonski was a formative influence on his own musical development, and Warszynski was particularly fortunate to have studied the corpus of Chopin Etudes under his guidance, alongside core repertoire of Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert, Liszt and Brahms. Beethoven’s ‘Waldstein’ Sonata and Chopin’s ‘Funeral March’ Sonata – pieces to be featured on this 25th anniversary concert – also stem from this immensely fruitful period. This Solo Piano Recital is a tribute to the legacy of a musical icon: Marek Jablonski was a beloved artist who displayed a rare gift of spiritual communication and an inspiring teacher who touched the lives of many through his lifelong commitment to music.
