Submit your message to CKUA

Use the Open Mic feature on the CKUA app and we’ll get your message to our intrepid CKUA announcers.

– Start by introducing yourself; we want to know your name and where you’re from.

– What’s your message for CKUA?

– Do you have a special song request or dedication?

General tips for a good recording:
  • Find the quietest room you can, away from windows. Turn off the radio, TV, or anything else that makes noise.
  • Recording on a smartphone? Hold it to your ear like you’re making a phone call, instead of holding it in front of your face.
  • Recording on a computer or tablet? Position yourself close to the device, place your mouth roughly 6-12 inches from the microphone.
  • Do you have a pair of headphones or earbuds with a built-in mic? This may offer better quality than the device by itself.
  • Pauses before or after the recording are fine.

You have 30 seconds to record!

If you don’t have the CKUA app, you can still send in your message. Use the form below. Please try to keep the length of the recording between 15-20 seconds.

Using an iPhone, iPad, or Mac
  • Find the Voice Memos app. This app is developed by Apple and usually located in the Utilities folder.
  • Open the app, tap the red circle record button to begin recording.
  • To adjust the recording level, move the microphone closer to or farther from what you’re recording.
  • If using an iPhone, hold it to your ear while talking, like you’re making a phone call. If using an iPad or Mac, make sure your mouth is within a foot of the device.
  • Tap the red square to stop. Tap to finish recording.
  • It should automatically give the recording a title based on the date or location. If you want to rename it, tap the recording, then tap the name and type a new one.
  • Fill out your name and song below, and press “Upload File”; select that file from your device.
Using an Android phone

Not all Androids have a built in voice recorder, but there are many available on the Play Store. Search “sound recorder’ in your apps. If nothing appears, you can download an app, such as Easy Voice Recorder or Voice Recorder Pro.

  • Find (or download) a simple voice recording app. Depending on your device there may be one already built-in.
  • Open the app and tap the record button to begin recording.
  • Hold the phone to your ear while talking, like you’re making a phone call.
  • When you finish recording, press the stop button.
  • Listen back to make sure it sounds the way you want it to.
  • Fill out your name and song below, and press “Upload File”; select that file from your device.
