About This SMS Policy
Your privacy is important to us, so we’ve developed this SMS Policy to explain how CKUA collects, uses, and manages your personal information when you choose to receive text messages from us.
CKUA may use SMS messaging to send marketing and promotional messages, donation and fundraising information, and announcements about events and programs.
By opting in to receive SMS messages from CKUA, you consent to receive text messages at the telephone number you provide. SMS messaging is optional, and you are not required to consent to receive text messages in order to use CKUA’s other services, make a donation, purchase products, register for an event, or otherwise interact with CKUA.

If you have previously provided CKUA with your telephone number for another purpose, we will not automatically enroll you in SMS marketing. You must separately opt in to receive SMS marketing messages.

You may withdraw your consent to receive SMS marketing messages at any time by replying STOP to an SMS message from CKUA.
If you opt out of SMS marketing messages, CKUA will retain a record of your opt-out to honor your request and prevent further marketing messages from being sent to you. Your telephone number may therefore remain in our records after you unsubscribe.
In some circumstances, CKUA may collect, use, or disclose personal information without consent where permitted or required by applicable law.
How We Share Your Personal Information
CKUA does not sell or trade your personal information for commercial purposes.
We may share your personal information internally or with vendors, consultants, and other service providers who process personal information on our behalf when they provide services to us. This includes our SMS messaging provider, Mailchimp, which provides services that allow CKUA to manage SMS subscriptions and send text messages.
These service providers will receive only the information reasonably necessary to provide services to CKUA and are required to handle personal information in accordance with applicable privacy and security requirements.
We may also disclose your personal information where required or permitted by applicable law, including in response to a court order, legal process, or law enforcement request.
We will not sell or share your telephone number or SMS subscriber information with third parties for their own independent marketing purposes.
Your SMS Marketing Choices
SMS messaging from CKUA is optional. You must actively opt in to receive SMS marketing and promotional messages.
You may unsubscribe from CKUA SMS marketing messages at any time by replying STOP to an SMS message from CKUA.
After you opt out, CKUA will no longer use your telephone number to send you SMS marketing messages. We may retain your telephone number and records of your opt-out to ensure that your preferences are respected and to maintain appropriate records.
If you wish to resume receiving SMS messages from CKUA after opting out, you may be required to provide new consent through an available CKUA SMS signup method.

Retention of Your Data and Deletion
CKUA will retain personal information related to its SMS messaging program only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, including administering your subscription, maintaining records of consent and opt-out requests, and complying with applicable legal obligations.
If you unsubscribe from SMS messages, your telephone number may remain in our records so that we can maintain a record of your opt-out and prevent future unsolicited SMS marketing messages.
We may retain personal information for longer where necessary to comply with our legal obligations, establish or defend a legal claim, or maintain appropriate business and evidential records.
When personal information is no longer required, CKUA will take reasonable steps to securely delete or destroy it in accordance with our privacy practices.
International Transfers
CKUA uses third-party service providers, including Mailchimp, to support its SMS messaging program. As a result, your personal information may be processed or stored outside of Canada, including in the United States or other countries where CKUA’s service providers operate.
Mailchimp may transfer and process Customer Data to and in the United States and anywhere else in the world where Mailchimp, its Affiliates or its Sub-processors maintain data processing operations. Mailchimp shall at all times ensure that such transfers are made in compliance with the requirements of Data Protection Laws and its DPA.
Your Data Protection Rights
Depending on the circumstances and applicable law, you may have some of the following rights regarding your personal information:
- You may access, correct, or request deletion of your personal information.
