What was our fundraiser total?

News

Greetings and thanks to our CKUA Spring Campaign donors and amplifiers!

The CKUA Spring Fundraising Campaign sounded good, did it not? Our least disruptive campaign—“fewer days campaigning”—and most consistent messaging campaign—“we understand why CKUA requires $1 million to continue to provide our service”—has ended.

CKUA donors came together to raise $674,343 of our campaign goal of $1,000,000.

We set the goal at a million dollars because that is what we need; and we have raised $1,000,000 before, most recently in the Spring 2021 campaign.

We finished the Spring 2023 campaign with:

– 2508 donors
– 455 donors who donated outside the formal campaign timeframe
– Included in the 2508 are 149 leadership donors who committed over $314,371 to the Double Your Dollars (DYD) pool
– 216 new monthly donors
– 206 first-time donors

In addition, we introduced two pop-up weekend DYD programs, which contributed more than $36,000 to the total, and were then matched by our generous DYD pop-up donor.

The monthly donors who provide cashflow certainty to CKUA increased their monthly donations so that CKUA will receive another $14,000 annually.

We are gratified by this show of support for CKUA. We appreciate the huge effort the entire staff of CKUA contributed to this effort, from announcing, to production, to promotion, and to the artists who participated, and for the passion they expressed for this amazing station.

The Board of Directors serves the CKUA Radio Foundation. We set necessary fundraising goals for the financial well-being and continuance of CKUA. In falling short of our goals, we rely on a contingency fund, which is, for obvious reasons, not desirable. The Board will discuss the outcome of this campaign, and we continue to seek funding sources and financial support for CKUA. We are currently reviewing plans for major gifts, including Legacy, CKUA Centenary Celebration, and targeted project campaigns that CKUA requires but cannot manage out of operating funds.

CKUA relies on volunteers who care about the future of this iconic, Made-in-Alberta resource that we share with the world to make it a better place. We are currently seeking people with community connections and skills to help us find support for CKUA. I urge you to participate in our Revenue Development Committee outreach, bringing your talents and passion to our effort. As well, with a $300 minimum donation you are eligible to join the CKUA Radio Foundation and be a real-time part of our quarterly Zoom updates on CKUA.

Thank you to all who give and keep the music playing.

Lindsay Hood, Chair, CKUA Board of Directors
