Propter Hawk is a Toronto-based rock and roll band that was formed in 2020. The band’s sound is a fusion of influences from Humble Pie, The Beatles, The Band, and Otis Redding. The band members include Malorie Blake on lead vocals, Alec McEachern on lead guitar, Andrew Blake on rhythm guitar, Brian Derro on bass and backup vocals, and Jimmy Ruddock on drums and backup vocals. Dawn Pemberton recently spoke with Malorie and Andrew about their new self titled album, the origin story of Propter Hawk, and their songwriting practice.

Rubim de Toledo began his career in Edmonton and is the founding member of Albertan Latin groups Montuno West, Bomba, and Maracujah. He has been a frequent musical director for Calgary’s Decidedly Jazz Danceworks since 2006 and is the head of the bass department at MacEwan University in Edmonton.
