The Secret Kacy Miller Tour

Story

When friends get together, it’s a beautiful thing. When those friends are all musicians, it’s even better. Micah Erenberg leads an evolving group called The Secret Beach. Kacy Lee Anderson is well-known as one half of Kacy and Clayton; she also plays with The Waverley Pickers. Shaela Miller is a popular solo artist who explores folk, country, and other styles in her music.

Create a fun mashup of the performers’ names, and you’ve got The Secret Kacy Miller Tour. The tour has a stop in Beresh Arts Den in CKUA’s Edmonton building on Sunday, May 11. Expect harmonies, heartbreakers, foot-stompers, and the kind of moments you only get when friends hit the road together.

When we reach Shaela Miller for a chat, she’s in Salmon Arm, for the first night of the tour. She, Kacy Lee Anderson, and The Secret Beach will each have a solo set. Then, says Miller, “We’ll also be singing together. That is the plan, anyway! Tonight will be our first show. By the time we get to Edmonton we’ll have it dialed in! We really wanted to do something different, and we are really looking forward to it.”

The chance to play solo acoustic shows is appealing to Miller. “I do it so seldom,” she says. “It’s a fun opportunity to hear the songs in a new way.” Miller’s most recent album, After the Masquerade, had rich instrumentation and production, for a full, studio-produced sound. For this tour, she says, “It’s cool to show how the songs sound standing alone.”

Jessica Marsh from Neon Moon Records is leading the tour, and says, “There are solo songs, duets, and then stuff they do as a trio. It’s really an opportunity to strip the production away, and to have the songwriting take centre stage.”

She also notes that as the artists travel together, they develop a rapport and a friendship that makes the tour more fun. “A lot of this show is very collaborative and off-the-cuff. And it’s always good to have a road trip with buddies!”
