Tears of Joy: Jean Connor and CKUA

Do you have a story about you and CKUA that you’d like to share with us? Please let us know by writing us. We’d love to feature it! What do such stories look like? Well, here’s a lovely one by listener, Jean Connor.

CKUA has been a happy place for me in many ways.

During a bout with asthma and in hospital for a week, my sister brought in a tiny yellow radio. I was listening to it when “Scheherazade” by Rimsky-Korskov was playing (it was a piece that reminded me of my dad who had passed years ago).

I started to cry and if you have asthma you shouldn’t cry because it takes away the air and being upset can be bad.

CKUA suddenly went off the air. No one knew why. That night, because it had just stopped, the announcer played the whole piece (it is a long piece of music) because of the incident that happened during the day.

I looked up and said, “I won’t cry,” and enjoyed hearing the music being played.

When my husband was in the hospital, he listened to CKUA everyday. We both enjoy it a lot.
