Statement on CKUA Email Scam

News

CKUA has become aware of an email scam involving the unauthorized use of CKUA hosts’ names.

Recently, members of Alberta’s music and arts communities have received fraudulent emails appearing to come from CKUA hosts requesting money for interviews and promotion.

CKUA is not responsible for these emails. We will never ask for banking details or passwords by email. Do not click any links in these messages. If you have already shared any financial information, we recommend contacting your bank directly.

HOW TO SPOT A SCAM EMAIL

Scam emails are being sent from Google/Gmail accounts such as “leocrippsckua@gmail.com” or “ckua.broadcast@gmail.com”. These are not CKUA email addresses. Legitimate CKUA email addresses will always end in @ckua.com.

Most of these emails appear to be targeting artists and authors. In some emails, the fake “host” pitches an interview on a CKUA show, then tries to sell the artist a promotional campaign package that would be launched after the interview.

CKUA does not ask for money, including e-transfers and other online payments, for interviews. We will never request personal or financial information through unsolicited emails.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE RECEIVED A SCAM EMAIL

  1. Do not click links or share personal information.
  2. Do not reply to the email.
  3. Report the email to your email provider.
  4. Reach out to CKUA directly at feedback@ckua.com if you’re unsure if a message is legitimate.

WHAT CKUA IS DOING

CKUA’s IT team is actively investigating the source of these emails. They are continuing to monitor the situation and will provide updates as it develops.

Our online donation system is managed and processed by a trusted third-party vendor that complies with industry-standard security and privacy requirements. CKUA does not directly store credit card or banking information.
