Get ready for an epic collaboration. This Spring Fundraiser, you are invited to Edmonton for a live performance of Dave Babcock & The Nightkeepers, joined by none other than CKUA host Roy Forbes!
On Sunday, April 26, join us at CKUA’s Beresh Arts Den in Edmonton for Roy’s Record Room Live. It begins at 2pm with a special two-hour live broadcast of Roy’s Record Room hosted by Roy Forbes and Lark Clark.
Immediately following, The Nightkeepers will hit the stage with their special guest, Mr. Forbes himself.
“It’ll be great to play with Roy again,” says Babcock, a well-known saxophonist. “It’s been almost 15 years since we last played with him, with The Nightkeepers. We had a blast then so I’m looking forward to doing it again.”
Babcock and The Nightkeepers are a high-octane blues band featuring some major Edmonton musicians: Alex Herriot, Rooster Davis, Harry Gregg, and Jamie Cooper.
“We’re going to have some fun,” Babcock says. “It’ll be pretty high energy stuff, a mix of original and vintage blues and R&B. Lots of different grooves, good stuff for dancing if people are so inclined.”
It’ll feel especially good to hit the stage during Fundraiser time, says Babcock.
“Everyone in the band, we’re are all CKUA listeners and fans and supporters,” he says. “We’re absolutely thrilled to be able to come in and play and be a part of it.”
Babcock says he is grateful for the impact CKUA has had on his life, as he’s been a listener since childhood, “which was some years ago now,” he laughs.
“It’s informed a lot of my listening over the years. I’ve heard so many great artists on CKUA that I probably never would have heard elsewhere.”
“CKUA has always been part of the fabric of my life. I feel like I owe CKUA a pretty sizeable debt for what it has offered me, musically.”
