Meet community partner and sponsor of Green Energy Futures, SkyFire Energy. An employee-owned company with a strong history in Alberta, SkyFire is Western Canada’s leading provider of solar power systems.
Greg Sauer, Vice-President of Business Development at SkyFire, says that the company has built a great team and a solid reputation over the last 23 years. “For much of this time, the economics were marginal,” he says, “but that has changed over the years, so in 2024, investing in solar energy makes good economic sense in most applications. We are no longer speaking just to early adopters. More households and businesses are thinking about solar, with businesses being an exciting opportunity of late. With a great solar resource, we can take a lot of homes and even businesses to net zero electricity. That’s an attainable target.”
In addition to their daily work in solar systems and installations, SkyFire is active in the community. The company is a Certified B Corporation, recognized by B Lab, a non-profit company that measures a company’s social and environmental performance against rigorous standards. SkyFire has donated solar power systems to several charities with the goal to reduce operating costs for these organizations.
SkyFire’s customers help to identify and select these organizations by nominating a deserving non-profit to receive this benefit.
Sauer also notes that SkyFire Energy has sponsored—and powered—a stage at the Calgary Folk Music Festival since 2010. “The goal is not marketing. Rather, the intent is community-building. However, we do always appreciate when people tell us that the way they first heard about SkyFire was due to our presence at Folk Fest!”
Because of their investment in the community and the arts, a connection with CKUA and with Green Energy Futures continues to make sense for SkyFire Energy.
“Given our longstanding commitment to education in the renewable energy sector, we cannot imagine a more synergistic relationship than with CKUA and David Dodge’s Green Energy Futures. With hundreds of profiles and episodes on all facets of green energy, David continues to share excellent and inspirational messages. SkyFire Energy is proud to support this programming and support our communities for a second consecutive year.”
