The Citadel Theatre isn’t just a revered cultural institution in our province—it’s also one of CKUA’s closest neighbours. From our broadcast studio in the Alberta Hotel, CKUA’s Edmonton hosts can see the distinctive orange building that includes the stages and offices where so much creative work happens. We recently checked in with Sarah Pocklington, Executive Director at The Citadel, to learn more about her role in Alberta’s cultural life.
The Citadel has been at the centre of Edmonton’s theatre scene since 1965, and Sarah says, “Brilliant and dynamic live shows, along with the belief, investment, and participation of patrons, sponsors, donors and staff, have helped it endure. Our creative vision is to continue to create world-class live theatre.”
A valued arts partner to CKUA for many years, the Citadel promotes its seasons and productions on the CKUA airwaves. “CKUA is an integral partner as a champion for the arts in our community,” says Sarah. “Their long-standing reputation and their commitment to amplifying the arts make them an outstanding partner for The Citadel. Our values are completely aligned, creating a synergy that makes CKUA the obvious choice to promote The Citadel’s programming.”
And Sarah is optimistic about the Citadel’s future. “In an effort to get back to pre-pandemic engagement, we’ve seen a much-cherished increase in the sale in season ticket packages for the upcoming season. We’re also excited to see more people coming back and choosing The Citadel, not only to experience live theatre, but also choosing us to host their weddings, conferences, and music events.”
CKUA is grateful to Park Power for their support of the arts in Alberta. These community profiles allow us to shine a spotlight on organizations that make music, arts, and culture flourish in our province. Park Power owner Kris Kasawski says, “I have a great appreciation for The Citadel Theatre. For all of my life The Citadel has been a pillar of the Edmonton arts community, supporting our city’s vibrant performing arts scene.”
Thanks for speaking with us, Sarah. And thanks for choosing this song for our listeners.
