Residency’s next host is Tzadeka

We hope you are enjoying Residency. This hour-long program features fresh, multi-genre programming from new voices and special guests. Our first two hosts, Jeff Kynoch and Michael Dunn, did great work!

A new announcer is set to begin her six weeks in the host chair. Meet Edmonton artist Tzadeka.

She’s a local MC and hip-hop artist whose program will be called Pass the Mic.

The whole idea of passing the microphone from one person to another is meaningful to her. “‘Pass the mic’ is a saying in hip-hop that’s about sharing space, and inviting people to share their voices.” She adds, “It’s also about making sure that there is room for everyone. I want to make sure that voices that aren’t usually heard get heard!”

Tzadeka says her program will include funk, soul, punk, jazz, hip-hop, and everything in between. “I’m thinking a lot about how changing culture always shows up in music. It’s a time of change for those who examine the world through art and culture.”

Celebrating the local music scene will be an important part of her playlist, too. “I’m a local artist and I work with young people. I want to uplift the local scene, including underground and emerging artists. As a woman in hip-hop, I want to showcase other women in hip-hop. I want to show the diversity of what women offer in punk and other genres. I like thinking about those who give back and also the people who bend the rules.”

Content Director Arianne Smith-Piquette says, “Residency is a launchpad for up-and-coming hosts to develop a program and share their unique voice and perspective with the CKUA audience. Each residency will last six weeks, and we’d love to hear your feedback. You can get in touch at feedback@ckua.com. We’re very excited to share new voices and perspectives on CKUA!”

Tune in to hear Tzadeka, the newest host of Residency. Her first program will be Saturday, February 22, midnight – 1am MT.
