Programming Schedule Updates: March 1, 2021

News

CKUA maintains a constant dialogue with its listeners and, consequently, makes regular adjustments to its program schedule accordingly.

In November 2020, CKUA invited listeners to participate in a survey about programming and fundraising. Those results, in combination with the daily feedback we receive from our listeners, helped to shape the on-air changes that will take effect on Monday, March 1, 2021.

Significant adjustments are taking place to create even more time for music on CKUA! We are making modifications to the majority of CKUA programs that will result in the elimination of the message break at the half-hour mark. Messaging will now be concentrated at the top of each hour.

This Saturday brings the debut of three new programs:

Dawn Pemberton shares how to Get On The Good Foot, Saturday 2-3pm

In response to listener suggestions as part of a CKUA survey in November, 2020, we’re happy to announce that this Saturday afternoon, March 6, features the debut of Get On The Good Foot – an hour of Soul, R&B, and Gospel music hosted by Dawn Pemberton, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM (MT).

Saturday Night Surprise will be just that: a different host with a different program focus each week. From artist profiles to deep dives into specific music styles, the hour is designed to be a workshop for CKUA hosts to try out different program ideas and the best of them will eventually become part of our weekly schedule. The series debuts this Saturday from 11:00 PM to midnight (MT) with CKUA Presents… CKUA with host Mark Rodgers who has been spending time in CKUA’s archive, in order to present programs from CKUA’s distant past.

When the clock strikes midnight on Friday night/Saturday morning, The Other Side of Midnight will provide student broadcasters and other volunteer hosts an hour to share their musical interests and insights with CKUA listeners. For the past few years, CKUA has been proud to work with practicum students from NAIT and SAIT broadcast and journalism programs. This new program will allow emerging announcers and producers the opportunity to gain practical, on-air experience. Join Kate Stevens on March 6, 2021, as she presents an hour of contemporary Soul and R&B by women in western Canada.

As previously announced, Monday, March 1st, saw the debut of In Our Neighbourhood an all-Alberta music program hosted by Oskar Zybart and the return of Lisa Wilton on Monday afternoons with Traffic Jams.

Join host Oskar Zybart In Our Neighbourhood, Monday 2-3pm

As Alberta’s Voice of Music, Arts & Culture, CKUA is proud to present the work of home-grown musicians each and every day. Our support of these gifted creators expands with the debut of an all-Alberta playlist on a new program called In Our Neighbourhood, Mondays between 2:00 and 3:00 PM (MT).

So good that Traffic Jams now include Mondays

We are delighted to announce that Traffic Jams with host Lisa Wilton will now be heard Monday through Friday between 3:00 and 6:00 PM (MT).
