New Residency Host Dylan Ella

Story

Have you caught our unique and ever-changing show, Residency? This hour-long program features fresh programming from new voices and special guests. It follows Friday Night Blues Party, airing midnight – 1am MT on Saturdays.

Starting Saturday, September 20, Edmonton musician and live sound engineer Dylan Ella will launch the latest Residency show, No Place For Us.

“I decided it to call it this as the music I plan to play on this show is not bound to one genre, so there’s no real category or ‘place’ for it to fit into,” she says. “I also was inspired by the idea of late-night listeners, and lonesome drifters who might find themselves listening to my late-night show. There’s always a place for you at No Place For Us!”

Ella says the show will be eclectic, reflecting her wide range of musical appreciation.

“I will also definitely dip into the obscurity of the midnight hour and play some tracks that are off the beaten path. I’ll be featuring lots of my all-time faves as well as lots of fresh tracks that I’ve been enjoying and want more ears to hear,” she says.

Ella brings an eclectic range of music expertise to CKUA. A full-time live sound engineer with a music degree from MacEwan University, she also writes and produces her own music. She plays in an indie rock band, a synthpop band, and has a noise project.

She says it’s always been a goal of hers to have a radio show.

“As a musician myself, I have always relied on smaller radio stations such as CKUA to showcase my music to fresh ears, so I’m looking forward to giving back to other small Canadian artists and playing their music on my show as well,” she notes. “And as a music nerd, I’m looking forward to the opportunity to spend more time listening to music myself, for this show.”

Ella will also be leaning in to the late hour of her timeslot.

“I’m hoping to provide a sense of community to fellow late-night listeners out there. I’ve always found myself someone who will listen to music in the wee hours, where the world is still and quiet, and I’d like to make people feel connected to the songs and to everyone tuning in at the same time via the radio waves.”

Tune in to hear Dylan Ella, the newest host of Residency. Her program, No Place For Us, will air for eight weeks starting Saturday, September 20, midnight – 1am MT.
