Folk Routes with host Tom Coxworth

There are Indigenous artists who paved the way for many of the artists today. One is Winston Wuttunee of the Red Pheasant Cree Nation near Battleford, SK, and currently residing in Manitoba.
Bluegrass Hour with host Darcy Whiteside

This episode includes music by Mi’kmaq folk singer-songwriter Morgan Toney. Hear the song “Pjila’si, Piskwa,” which in Mi’kmaq means “welcome, come in.” Darcy will also include music by Monica Taylor. Her songs, written from the heart, are rooted in her Cherokee/Scottish/Irish heritage.
Roy’s Record Room with host Roy Forbes

Roy heads to the RRR 78 rpm archives for an all-78 Shellac Shack Shuffle. Hear a few sides by Indigenous artists from the 78 era. Canadian Indigenous artists will be represented by Kitimat’s Art Grant (who is thought to be the first Canadian Indigenous singer-songwriter to be commercially released on record). You’ll also hear Métis fiddler George Sauer & his Northern Ramblers (from Athabasca), and legendary Indigenous fiddler, Andy de Jarlis. US Indigenous artists will be represented by the superb Jazz vocalizing of Mildred Bailey, Kay Starr, and Lee Wiley. You’ll also hear the classic guitar instrumental, “Rumble,” by Link Wray, from a rare 1958 78.
World Spinning with host Lark Clark
4pm – 6pm MT
Lark will share a conversation with Gwaai Edenshaw, one of the top 3 Haida carvers. Gwaai’s work is known internationally; he carves monumental totem poles as well as miniature supernatural beings. Carvers are the rock stars of Haida culture. Gwaai is the oldest son of Guujaaw, the Haida leader who led the Haida Nation to clear title of Haida Gwaii, the former Queen Charlotte Islands, serving as President of the Haida Nation for more than 20 years. Guujaaw is also a carver, a drum-maker and a culture bearer.
