Limited Edition Fundraiser Mugs

Story

Melba Seto, Bowness Soapworks

Melba Seto loves community and connecting people. She also loves CKUA. All of these factors inspired her to make a very creative contribution to our Fall Fundraiser. The Calgary-based artist has designed and is currently creating handmade, limited-edition CKUA mugs and donating a large chunk of the proceeds to our Fall Fundraiser.

Seto, owner of Bowness Soapworks and Seto Pottery, says she has always loved the feeling of connection CKUA gives her. She hopes her mugs add to that.

“So many of us are listening to CKUA from all over the world, and this is a physical object that connects us. Imagine you and I are having coffee out of our CKUA mugs, listening to CKUA. It doesn’t matter where we are in the world, we are experiencing this thing together. There’s something super magical about that.”

It’s not the first time Seto has contributed to CKUA.

Last year she paid for two donated hours and held a live pottery session on Instagram for each one, encouraging people to chat and share their thoughts on it. She has also donated beautiful handmade soaps as gifts for our volunteers on several occasions.

Seto discovered CKUA 14 years ago. “It really creates a sense of community; it’s something really special about it.”

She loves seeing people wearing CKUA merch or holding a CKUA mug. “It’s like a secret handshake,” she says.

When it comes to her 2024 Fall Fundraiser mug, it will be an exclusive club –  only 97 are being made, to celebrate CKUA’s 97th birthday this year. Each mug is uniquely hand-glazed, wheel-thrown and hand carved with a custom CKUA logo on it.

With every mug purchase, $50 will go to support CKUA and the rest will go towards shipping, the artists’ skill and time, and materials.

You can find these mugs at www.BownessSoapworks.com. Thank you for your support, Melba!
