When Jason T. of Sherwood Park got the call from CKUA that told him he was a 50/50 raffle winner, he got a bit flustered. CKUA’s Chief Operating Officer Adam Mitchell told him he had won $182,950, but Jason says, “When he mentioned that number, I couldn’t finish writing it down.”
Now Jason is making plans. Home renovations and a trip to Europe were already on his family’s wish list. These things will happen as planned, but with more ease and excitement than they ever imagined. His kids are in French Immersion at school, so a summer vacation will allow them to speak the language in Paris, while seeing the sights and trying French foods.
Jason’s been a CKUA donor for many years, and a monthly donor since 2022. He has an interesting perspective on his decision to buy raffle tickets. “You can’t lose when you buy tickets. You win by supporting CKUA.” He adds, “CKUA is so important to the community. It’s a positive voice, and that’s something we need right now.”
Jason has one other idea that all of us at CKUA would love to see. He’s a Volkswagen van enthusiast, and he has a dream to CKUA-ify a van. To see an old VW van, all fixed up, with “CKUA” on the side, would be cool, he says, especially at summer festivals.
