The CKUA Arts & Cultural Events Calendar Connects Us

Story

It’s often said that CKUA connects people around the province. One way that happens is through our Arts & Cultural Events Calendar. It’s a dynamic listing of live events happening in Alberta. Whether it’s a gallery opening in your hometown or a festival in Calgary or Edmonton, the calendar tells you what’s happening. It might just help you plan your next night out.

Karen Howell, Events and Volunteer Coordinator at CKUA, says, “CKUA’s Arts and Cultural Events calendar is not only a gathering place for anyone interested in what’s happening across the province, it’s also an example of CKUA’s overall mandate: to include – and showcase – artists and events that might not otherwise be covered by mainstream channels. With several events every day, covering a wide variety of categories, it’s an excellent way to see all the great music, arts, and cultural activities happening in Alberta.”

Nancy Fielding is one of a handful of CKUA volunteers who updates the calendar. She recently moved from Alberta to Ontario, and chose to keep adding the listings. “Alberta is home and host to so many artists, festivals, and events,” she says. “From the big cities to the small towns, it gives me great pleasure to share it all on the CKUA Arts and Culture calendar.”

We like to think that the events calendar has strong connections to CKUA’s daily broadcast. Hosts often interview artists, actors, and musicians based on listings they have seen in the calendar. And, of course, spinning music by artists touring the province happens often.
