CKUA is welcoming a new host to the airwaves: Paula Spurr.
She will be joining our roster of fill-in hosts ready to step in across our broadcast schedule.
“I am beyond thrilled to be a new member of the CKUA family,” she says. “Radio has always been a part of my long life! I’m excited to bring my life experience to the party.”
Late-night listeners are likely already familiar with Paula’s eclectic range. She recently completed an eight-week tenure on Residency where she hosted Gravel Road Grooves, featuring hand-picked selections ranging from roots and bluegrass to alternative rock.
“Doing Residency was so helpful,” Spurr explains. “First, I was able to remember how to use my programming muscles, which came back quickly. Second, it showed me that I am capable of putting a show together regularly. Third, it began connecting me with [CKUA’s] amazing listening audience. That’s what I call a win-win-win!”
Spurr brings an extensive background as a broadcaster and performing musician to CKUA. She spent six years on the air at CITR in Vancouver, later moving to a commercial timeslot on Coast 1040 playing alternative rock. She has also been an active singer-songwriter since 1988, currently billed as Sparky Spurr and playing primarily on bluegrass and old-tyme music.
A self-proclaimed “follow-where-the-music-leads” programmer, Spurr says she’s looking forward to the challenge of stepping up as a fill-in host in a wide variety of CKUA programming. She’s also excited to get to know our audience better.
“As I bounce around wherever I’m needed, I’ll get to connect with the large variety of listeners CKUA enjoys, and that is so exciting to me,” Spurr says. “I’m looking forward to continuing that connection with the CKUA family.”
