Lynne Dunsmuir has been a CKUA donor for more than 20 years. She says she was a casual listener for a time, but two programs caught her attention and made her a more dedicated CKUA fan.
First, she caught The Celtic Show with host Andy Donnelly while she was driving. “It pulled me in!” she says. Then, she adds, “The clincher was discovering Bob Chelmick and The Road Home. The poetry made me feel like I was all in.”
Now she listens to a variety of programs, and she mentions Morningsong, hosted by Joe Hartfeil, as one of her favourites. “Sunday mornings are just the best right now,” she says. “The whole Sunday vibe—I could just listen to the radio all day.”
Lynne lives in Carstairs, and has lived in other parts of Alberta over the years. When asked what CKUA adds to her life, she says, “Folks who reside in rural areas do so for a number of reasons, but there is no doubt that at some points in time, one can feel a bit isolated from the rest of the world. That feeling of isolation can also be felt by urban individuals too, but what CKUA offers to us all is a sense of connection. There is a palpable effort on the part of CKUA to foster a sense of belonging, of community, and some sort of commonality through music.”
As CKUA prepares for its Spring Fundraiser, Lynne’s message to her fellow listeners is simple. She says, “It feels right to donate. When I first started to donate, I didn’t have a lot of disposable income. I think I did $5 a month. If everyone gives a little bit, CKUA will be a steady ship! What a difference that would make.”
She adds, “Giving to CKUA gives you ongoing, lasting return on your dollars.”
Thank you, Lynne, for reminding us that everyone can play a part in supporting CKUA. And thank you for your ongoing support!
