Meet Aajah Sauter. She’s working at CKUA this summer, so you may hear her voice on the radio or see her out and about in the community. As she completes her Bachelor of Communications with a major in Journalism at MacEwan University, she is acquiring a variety of work experiences that align with her career goals.
While in university, Aajah was the Culture and Opinion editor at The Griff, MacEwan’s student publication. She interned at The Globe and Mail, working production for their podcast, The Decibel. In September, she will move to Toronto. As one of five recipients of the Black Journalism Fellowship through the Canadian Journalism Foundation, she’ll be hosted at the CBC for six months.
Before then, she is working with CKUA’s Content Team on a variety of production and interview projects. She’s producing and delivering on-air interviews with artists and festival planners for our “CKUA Summer” feature. She’ll be on site at the Edmonton Folk Music Festival as well.
Aajah says she’s enjoying being at CKUA. She finds it fast-paced, but is quick to add, “This is such a nice community, and the people are passionate about music.”
Aajah is not sure where she will work when her fellowship at CBC is over, but she is open to many different paths. “Working in production for film and television has always been a dream of mine,” she says. A love of music, film and television might lead her to work in the entertainment industry. “Who knows? Maybe I will end up hosting my own podcast or talk show!”
Welcome, Aajah!
