Mary Corbett: “CKUA has been a big part of my life since I was born”

Story

Do you have a story about you and CKUA that you’d like to share with us? Please let us know by writing us. We’d love to feature it! What do such stories look like?  Well, here’s one by Mary Corbett, a member of our Board of Directors!

CKUA is a big part of my life and has been since I was born. I was raised on CKUA and it is as ingrained a habit, as brushing my teeth or washing my hands.

During these times of uncertainty CKUA is a grounding factor in my day, my week, and my month. I know with certainty how the week will unfold—what I wake up to, how I enjoy the morning listening, what the afternoon will bring, and what will accompany my evenings. The radio hosts provide the certainty and their musical selections bring joy and new learnings to my day.

Where else can we experience such variety and exposure to all genres of music?

We are now into a very important Fall Fundraising Campaign for CKUA. As a member of the Board I ask you to consider what CKUA  brings to your life and to your well-being.

We all feel a degree of anxiety about maintaining a sense of community and friendship with others during this isolating time. CKUA provides that tie to community—it helps us recognize that we are part of this energy that focuses on connection through music and the arts. The presence of CKUA, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, brings a reassurance that community exists and includes us.

If you value the connection you experience, we need your demonstrated support in the form of a donation now. For CKUA to continue to provide all of us with that musical community, we need money to pay for upgrades to security, transmitters, heat, lighting, computers…the list goes on.

Please donate so we can all benefit the station and listen, as the broadcasts continue into a century of sound. All donations are important. Don’t pass up the opportunity to become a part of the giving community that supports this wonderful station.

Thanks again for sharing this story about you and CKUA, Mary!

Mary and her son Nathan both join Grant Stovel this Friday at 8:30 AM (MST) on Alberta Morning in support of the Fall fundraiser. Plus, Mary will join Tony King, as his guest pitcher, live on Thoroughfare, at 1 PM (MST) that afternoon!

Please email us if you would like to share your own CKUA story with our community!
