On September 13, host Terry David Mulligan will welcome two guests on Mulligan Stew. In the first hour, hear a conversation with Madeleine Roger, an award-winning singer-songwriter from Winnipeg. She’s got a new album, Nerve, and she’ll play acoustic versions of some of the songs on that album. In Hour Two, Mulligan’s guest is Terra Lightfoot. Her current tour includes three Alberta dates, and her new album, Home Front, will be released in mid-October.
Terry David Mulligan has watched these artists with interest since their early days in the business. And throughout his time as a broadcaster and interviewer, he has offered support and coverage to rising stars. “The joy in this is to find an artist as early in their career as you can. Then when you see the potential, give them the opportunity to have their music be heard.”
“What I like about Madeleine Roger,” says Mulligan, “is that her voice reminds me of an early Joni Mitchell. And she’s started to record her own songs. She can write. And then she hooked up with The Fretless, and that was it. I love the joy in the music they make. She is on her way.”
As for Terra Lightfoot, Mulligan notes that she has been writing songs with some Canadian legends: Colin James, Tom Wilson, Colin Linden. “After writing songs for other people, now she’s collecting her own songs. She’s strong as a songwriter, and I love the way she sings. I love her guitar work. She’s done her rock ‘n’ roll albums, and now she’s doing softer, quieter recordings. I’m really digging it.”
Tune in to Mulligan Stew, Saturday, September 13, 5pm – 7pm MT.
