As Albertans eagerly await the end of winter, CKUA is looking back proudly at this year’s Chillout festival coverage. We’re incredibly proud to have showcased Alberta’s vibrant winter festival scene with in-depth festival previews, exclusive artist and organizer interviews, on-site festival presences, and live-to-air broadcasts that kept listeners warm all season long.

Winterruption YEG brought music lovers together in the heart downtown Edmonton, and CKUA was there every step of the way. A live broadcast from McDougall United Church featured unforgettable performances by Jim Bryson and Hiss Golden Messenger.
Meanwhile, the CKUA Beresh Arts Den at the Alberta Hotel hosted the Winterruption Pizza Party, where Dead Fibres, Grimelda, and Motherhood lit up the stage. The next day featured another stacked lineup at CKUA, featuring Jillian Treidler, Mart Avi, and PACKS. The next morning, the Roots Rock Brunch turned up the daytime energy at Rocky Mountain Icehouse with Carter Felker, Amy Nelson, Lachlan Neville, Pony Gold, Luke Thomson, and The Denim Daddies.
The momentum continued in Calgary at Block Heater Festival, with CKUA broadcasting live from the ATB Main Stage at The Confluence. Audiences across Alberta and around the world tuned in to CKUA for stirring sets from The War and Treaty and The Joel Plaskett Emergency.
From there, Chillout rolled into Drumheller for Cold Bones Fest, where we took in some amazing performances and recorded a live episode of the Hidden Track podcast featuring Cat Clyde. From there, we headed off to Canmore for The Warm Up, broadcasting live from artsPlace with Curt Young & The Healers and the Angelique Francis Band.

CKUA Chillout was made possible by the generosity of our donors.
For GivingTuesday and during our 2025 year-end giving campaign, we asked CKUA listeners to join us in raising funds to support expanding our winter festival presence. You answered the call; with your help, we were able to highlight Alberta’s amazing winter festivals and connect with our community.
Thank you, donors!
