Letterkenny’s Nathan Dales: CKUA feelings

Community Profiles
Do you have a story about you and CKUA that you’d like to share with us? Please let us know by writing us. We’d love to feature it! What do such stories look like?

Well, here’s one by Nathan Dales, a co-star of the hit Canadian series,
Letterkenny!

When I think about CKUA, the first place it makes me think of is Home.

If I were to take a listening tour of the house, it would start in the morning in the kitchen.

The radio would have Allison Brock’s incredible laugh coming from the speakers while I sit down with a coffee and start my day.

Next, would be the living room and Terry David Mulligan. Not only do I love the rock and roll selection that TDM plays, it also happens that the speakers in the living room can attain the highest volume. It also happens that TDM’s voice sounds good at a high volume too.

A later stop would be listening to the radio in the bathroom while I take a shower and get ready for the evening. While this is happening, Lionel Rault would be playing tunes that, even with my limited musical lyrical knowledge, I would be singing along to every one of them, while I try to pick out which black t-shirt to wear to dinner.

The next thing I think of is Family.

CKUA reminds me of growing up and driving to Edmonton to see my grandparents. Thinking about CKUA and my grandparents also reminds me that I am a fourth generation CKUA listener. My great great Uncle Ned Corbett would be first, my grandparents, John and Nora Corbett, are second. My parents, Mary Corbett and Graeme Dales, third, and finally myself, Nathan Dales in the fourth generation spot.

The next thing I think of is Sound.

I love the music CKUA plays, the individual nature of the hosts and the sponsored hours that are generously donated by people (like me) who like the same things CKUA has to offer, and more. Getting to hear playlists on those donated hours offers a huge sense of community for me.

I don’t necessarily know the people who are donating but when I hear great musical selections from listeners just like me, it always puts a smile on my face and something great in my ears.

Thanks again for sharing these stories about you and CKUA, Nathan!
