Hosts and Staff Talk Fall Fundraiser 2025

Story

We can’t wait to launch the inspiring fun that is Fall Fundraiser! It takes all departments at CKUA working together to make a fundraising campaign happen. We asked some CKUA people about what they do to get ready, and what their favourite moments are.

The Fund Development Team sets our fundraising goal and then works with people across the organization to help this community reach it. Donor Stewardship and Engagement Manager Yvone Joubert says, “I’m really looking forward to seeing our community come together. It’s a powerful reminder of why we do this important work. Thank you to all who support CKUA!”

Director of Fund Development Kejina Robinson agrees that it’s all about community. “My favorite thing about fundraiser is watching all of the donations come in during DYD hours. I’m always so inspired to see the generosity of our community. Thank you for supporting.”

Once the dates of the Fundraiser have been confirmed, CKUA’s Broadcast and IT Team makes sure that all the technical equipment, including microphones, mixers, laptops, and speakers will be ready for launch day. “I am excited to set up all things technical for the fundraiser!”  says Engineering Technician Gerome Maloloy-on. “My favourite part of fundraiser is watching the live performances,” adds Ryan Breitkreitz, IT Systems Administrator.

Tom Tunski agrees that the live broadcast events are another source of joy during fundraiser. Tunski works on the Events and Volunteers team and says, “My favourite part of fundraiser is having our beautiful volunteers come out and help us with the fun live events.”

One theme emerges among staff who are behind the scenes. They enjoy listening to the hosts in conversation on the air. “I love connecting with the hosts,” says Associate Producer Scott Zielsdorf. “It’s always a blast.”

Peter Chapman, who works in Sales and Partnerships, agrees. “It’s always fun to hear the hosts having that live banter on the air. You never know what they’re going to say. I especially like it when Tom Coxworth and Andy Donnelly are on together. There’s teasing, but they always end up in a Celtic cuddle.”

For their part, the hosts embrace the opportunity to do radio a little differently during fundraisers. “One of my favourite things about fundraiser is playing local bands and discovering new music!” says Mark Rodgers, host of Open Nights.

Holger Petersen, host of Natch’l Blues, says, “My favourite fundraising moments would be the time spent with Cam Hayden on Friday nights and Saturday afternoons. And in the great company of CKUA listeners: people who love music, especially blues and roots!”

Tony King, host of Thoroughfare, says he loves it when artists come into the studio. “We get to share music and talk about why CKUA is part of a triptych that involves the artist, the radio station, and most of all, you! You’re integral! Thank you.”

Please join us for Fall Fundraiser, October 17 – 26. We would love to receive your donation, share your comments, and play your musical suggestion. Keep the beat: You power CKUA!
