We’ve all looked through old family photos. It’s fun to admire—or mock— the fashion sense of people in bygone eras. Maybe we’ve wondered what the folks in the photo were thinking about when the photo was taken.

It’s not that different when we look at CKUA’s historical photos. We feel connections with people we never had the chance to meet. We feel gratitude for the work they put in to make life better for others.
This week, we’re inviting you to think a little about CKUA’s history and legacy. On November 21, 1927, the CKUA broadcast launched. The first words uttered in a CKUA broadcast were, “Good evening, friends of the radio audience,” and we like to think that spirit endures 97 years later. CKUA has grown into a modern, world-reaching broadcaster, but our listeners continue to be friends of the radio audience.
Throughout its history, CKUA has experienced hardships, joys, and complicated times. We also know that at every turn in the road, CKUA’s listeners have been our companions and supporters.
CKUA does not exist without its donors. That is not a threat or an exaggeration. It’s just a fact. This month, we are asking donors to dig deep again and support our Spring Fundraiser, which runs April 25 – May 4, 2025. You can donate any time, but that’s when the on-air excitement happens. Join us!
Before then, take a few moments to look at some “family photos.” We’re thankful to the people who had a vision for CKUA all those years ago. And we’re so grateful to you, the donors who continue to support CKUA today.
