We’re seeing some new faces in the library, studio, and halls these days at CKUA. That means that you might hear some new voices on the radio, too. CKUA’s summer placements have always been a great opportunity for students to learn, gain experience, and earn some money. And we’re happy to have their help, since summer is a busy time for CKUA!
Charlotte Carr is almost at the end of her Radio and Television studies at NAIT. She’ll be in a summer placement at CKUA until August 16. You may have heard her talking about upcoming festivals in the short “CKUA Summer” feature on the air.
She’s gaining experience in interviews, editing, voicing, and playlists. “I always knew I wanted to work in radio,” she says. Her time at Victoria School of the Arts in Edmonton began her training in production and editing, and she’s happy with the path she’s chosen. “I always wanted to find a career where I could grow that passion and knowledge.”
Maria Morin is a Simon Fraser University student who grew up in St. Albert. She’s working towards a BFA in Theatre Production and Design. She says her first year in BC was fun and educational, adding, “It’s great to see the arts and culture scene in Vancouver.” Her program at SFU is very interdisciplinary, allowing her to develop skills in a variety of areas.
Her summer work is in CKUA’s library and archives. “I do uploads of new music, and I write artist bios for the database,” she says. “Most of my work is adding things that will be helpful for the hosts, when they want to access information. ”
We’ve got another summer student starting at CKUA this week. We’ll introduce her soon. You can also re-visit this profile of one of our recent students, Kai Salzl. Thanks to all the students who work hard to help out at CKUA!
